What's so great about music is that listeners don't just become fans of a genre, but they become fans of a band. Real people and real experiences, hard work and dedication, passion and personality, these are just a few aspects of a band that extend far beyond the reaches any genre can have. A decent band is one that executes an idea with little or no innovation, but is enjoyable to listen to.
A good band innovates, but focuses on an idea that has been done before in an interesting way. A great band is one whose songs resonate with listeners because they are both unique and exciting in ways they haven't heard before. The Almost are perhaps more than decent, good and great; they're awesome. Not only are they spectacular live, but their newest album, Monster Monster , defies pre-set genre boundaries and innovates with each song. Also, the catchier music, displayed on the very likable rock song "Hands," sounds like an upbeat version of The Send.
What's not going to be on the LP, and showcased on the EP, are two b-sides cuts which makes the EP seem more like an investment rather than a straight preview. Although "July" is essentially a one-dimensional, aggressive, guitar-driven rock song, "Birmingham" is a catchy punk-edged song which acts as a warning against complacency.
As one of the vocalists and drummer of the popular screamo rock band Underoath, Aaron Gillespie has been able to transform his side project into a full band and release the band's anticipated sophomore project. The Monster EP does an excellent job of getting fans even more excited for the Almost's first release in two and a half years with their fine-tuned rock songs and interesting lyrics. I know you have a thing for Aaron. Hell, I like him too. But he's no Davey Grolton just yet.
You may as well have made a comparison to fucking Ringo Starr. As for the sound of the 2 bands, give the album a listen You like this roberstona? Just noticed your dig I just thought the comparison was irrelevant; you ladies are getting far more worked up than I. Fair opinion on the comparison being irrelevant I guess DavID, but it worked on a number of fronts; a my anticipation for this album.
